I'm Back Baby!

So tropical storm Debby is a thing right now. It has been several days since it has begun; and while I am enjoying the cooler weather and the unexpected break from work. I gotta say I miss leaving the house for more than just walking my dog (more on that in the future).

Although I did take a break from writing the blog posts that didn’t mean I stopped writing, nor exploring the writing world.

To that point I want to let you know that I have posted on Royal Road (RR).

What is Royal Road?

It is a website where people post web novels and fan fiction. I first came across it when I was trying to find places to post my work; to hopefully get more feedback on it and to build a following. I already knew of Wattpad, Reddit, Webnovels among many others. As you know I tried Wattpad. But what I learned is that there is no way for new authors to really stand out.

That isn’t to say it isn’t possible. Just that it is really hard.

Even with the new posts listings. It isn’t large enough to showcase or really put forth new authors. Nor is it easily found. One has to search for it. All this to say that I got no traction on Wattpad. Additionally, I just didn’t like using the platform as a reader. It was just really confusing. Maybe in time I will get used to it. Just like the NaNoWriMo website. But for now I have decided that it has served its purpose.

Which was to push me out of my comfort zone and stretch my drawing skills (through the creation of pictures for each chapter). Bringing the images that I had in my mind to reality.

As I am learning with each location that I post, something new is required, and in creating it, I am creating a more complete book.

For example with RR, each chapter requires a name. Something that I am coming up with on the fly. It also required cover art. I already had a cover, but it didn’t have the title or my author name on it. So I redid it, so now it does. It turned out really great.

Additionally, I have received my first rating and comment. It is so exciting!

I have a four rating out of five and most amazingly, I have as of this post, 101 views. That makes me so happy. After all, creating this website, doing this blog post, creating social media accounts and posting are all about getting my work out there. Getting people to read my words, understand and feel. You know….

So far I am loving RR. Mostly due to the fact that RR has an updates page listed for all to view, on the main page, and doesn’t require one to be a member to read/view the site’s works.

Which I really like.

Most importantly it is really easy to navigate and use.

There is also a proven methodology of moving works from RR to Amazon where authors can be paid for their work. Yes, that is indeed what I am hoping to do.

In the meantime I will still post my works on my website first but if they are long enough I will post them on RR as well. Not so sure about Wattpad.

What else have I been up to you ask?

Well I finally tried YouTube and while I will keep the account to post any audio addition of poems, children’s stories and the like. I don’t think I'm much of a fan of creating videos featuring myself. It just isn’t for me.

Onto the last update.

I have been working on a story for over four years now. I’m still not done. However, I am ready to start sharing it. I am hoping that by sharing it, I gain feedback, a following and generate interest so that when I eventually make it into a book it has a ready and interested market waiting for it. Not sure if it will work or not. But I won’t know until I try.

So the upcoming blog posts might not be blog posts but portions of the story.

I’m not sure when I will start it, but no doubt, you all will be the first to know.

Well that’s all for now. Until next Thursday, have fun and stay safe out there.
